Bixby International Sponsors the Rubbish to Runway Event to Benefit School Children in Underdeveloped Countries

For the second consecutive year, Bixby International is proud to announce that it will be a sponsor of the Rubbish to Runway fundraiser, which is a showcase of discarded waste materials that have been converted into wearable fashion. Proceeds from the eighth annual North Shore Rubbish to Runway event, which will be held in late April, will be donated to the Long Way Home nonprofit organization.

Long Way Home uses sustainable design and materials to construct self-sufficient schools in underdeveloped countries that promote education, employment, and environmental stewardship. According to the group’s mission statement, Long Way Home “empowers communities to break the cycle of poverty through innovative solutions to local challenges.”

For the event, the Bixby team provided local designers in the Newburyport area with discarded plastic waste materials from which the designers will produce “wearable art” that includes dresses, skirts, jackets, and blazers. The garments created by a wide range of local artists and designers will garner bids and be sold at the Rubbish to Runway catwalk event where models will display the apparel for auction attendees.

"Bixby International is proud to support the Rubbish to Runway fundraiser,” said President & CEO Dan Rocconi. "We love that this fundraiser supports such a worthy organization as The Long Way Home, whose tireless efforts help needy children worldwide.”

Funds raised from recent Rubbish to Runway events have supported the construction of an educational campus in San Juan Comalapa, Guatemala. Proceeds raised in 2019 will help sponsor the education of students at Long Way Home's flagship school, which is located in Guatemala City.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 5:30 to 9:00 pm at The Governor’s Academy, 1 Elm St., Byfield, MA. Click here to access the Long Way Home website to learn more about the event as well to purchase tickets for the Rubbish to Runway show.
